The plan for the Bathurst Primus 1000 was simple; Brock was to start with 05 HRT in Pole Position and to finish the race in the driver seat. The fans were all there to watch him win his 10th Bathurst crown. After leading the race Brock handed to Skaife on lap 32.
While holding a lead of eight seconds, disaster struck on lap 52. 05’s engine had expired, setting the wiring harness in the engine bay ablaze.
Skaife and Brock had driven well, the car performed superbly but the fairytale finish everyone wanted wasn’t to be.
