The HZ series was launched in October 1977 and represents the best of Holden GTS range, the last of the US inspired "big body" Holdens. Subsequent Holdens would now follow European styling and engineering, evident by the behind scenes work gearing up for the most drastic model shift ever, the launch of the Commodore in 1978.
Sandlewood metallic body colour was one of few new additional colours added to the HZ series in November 1978. The HZ came with a new optional cloth insert called 'Tartan Plaid' Check. The colour of the check cloth contrasted with the vehicle interior. In addition there was also a thin central colour stripe reflecting the exterior colour of the vehicle was featured in the check insert.
